Tonight we went to see Roger Hodgson perform at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall. Roger was the voice of Supertramp, as well as writing much of their material, and he now creates a sound indistinguishable from the original band.
The Bridgewater is mainly used for classical concerts and it was slightly odd being there to listen to rock, especially among a fair number of ageing rockers and rock chicks. But the sound quality was great and the audience was lively. Our seats were in the Gallery, or third circle, which has a fairly steep rake so most people were too scared to stand up and dance in the aisle.
There was much appreciation, especially when he sang the old favourites including Dreamer, Hide in Your Shell, Logical Song and, as the finale, Fool's Overture. We were also treated to a lovely acoustic solo version of Even in the Quietest Moments.
A great evening. Two hours of excellent music and there was even a 20 minute interval for cups of tea!
