As it was bank holiday weekend we wanted to avoid the central Lake District which can become choked with tourists. Instead we found our way to Cartmel Fell which sits to the south-east of Lake Windermere and is less well-known to tourists.
We parked at the 16th century church and then worked our way to Middle Tarn, hidden away in a small wood.
