Another short walk squeezed in between sunrise and sunset. But at least today was generally brighter, allowing some photos at the beginning of the walk.
The Kentmere valley is one of many 'cul-de-sacs' in this part of the Lake District: the road takes you as far as it can and then you can only continue on foot, up into the hills and mountains. These valleys are quiet and unspoiled and it is easy to imagine how they were in ancient times: every journey was on foot and local people routinely walked across very challenging terrain which, today, is only used by walkers and shepherds.
We parked in Kentmere village and followed the River Kent valley north towards the reservoir. What a beautiful and peaceful walk. No doubt the sprinkling of snow on the tops helped to create a special atmosphere.

Plenty of holly to remind us of the season |

As we moved along the track the snow got closer |

We saw no people, just plenty of sheep |

Finally, as we drove back down the valley to Staveley, we decided to stop off for some refreshment at the
Hawkshead Brewery's Beer Hall which was quite busy. Alex Brodie's post-BBC retirement project seems to go from strength to strength. A glass of their festive brew, Jingle Fells, made the short journey home seem even shorter.
