Our
walk up to Beacon Tarn last year was one of our favourites - gently undulating grassy terrain with interesting flora and fauna. Today we explored another area nearby on Torver Common, just west of Coniston Water.

We parked at Brown Howe and worked our way up a farm track. Almost immediately we were battered by the strong, icy wind which continued for almost the entire walk. At times we felt that we were walking backwards!

At the top of the track we touched the Cumbria Way as we turned right to climb Tottle Bank. For the remainder of the walk we followed a stone wall which helped to give us limited shelter from the wind.
As we reached the top and started down towards Tyson Wood, Coniston Water was suddenly laid out before us, deep blue like the Med on this bright, sunny day.

Once we were down at the lakeside we walked back to the car, happy that we were no longer being blown about by the strong winds.
