It was thick fog at home but at Staveley we had a clear blue sky and some warmth. We parked near Hawkshead Brewery's Beer Hall and set off out of the village, crossing the river and heading into the hills.
We then turned off the track and started our descent, turning into Dorothy Farrer's Spring Wood which is protected from deer by unusual tall gates. In a few weeks time it will be carpeted with bluebells but today it was still looking very wintery despite the bright weather.
We crossed back over the river and, having worked up a thirst, stopped for a pint of Windermere Pale in the Beer Hall. A couple of loaves from our favourite artisan bakery, More! and then we returned home - where it was still foggy.
We weren't sure what to expect but we had a lovely, varied walk. The first part was open grazing with plenty of gorse in flower. Once we had gained some height we had fine views of High Street to the north.
