Even though the official Gilbert and Sullivan Festival has moved to Harrogate, although there are rumours that it might return to Buxton next year, Bernie and I still managed some G&S fun in Buxton thanks to two splendid performances by the National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company.
First, we enjoyed The Gondoliers and then, on Saturday we saw HMS Pinafore. They were both splendid with excellent performances and wonderful singing. I particularly enjoyed The Gondoliers and the Duke of Plaza Toro's performance was outstandingly witty, even by G&S standards. Both operas are packed with witty repartee, toe tapping tunes and lively dances.
The Opera House is a wonderful venue for G&S performances and my only complaint this year was that there wasn't an entire Festival to enjoy. Hopefully next year.....
