September is a beautiful month in the Lakes, it's a month of changing colours and cooler evenings. The nights are drawing in and there's a distinct chill in the air, however, there are fewer tourists around so it's a lovely month for walking. As there are fewer people around, it's no longer necessary to find walks away from the honeypots and off the beaten track. So, for the last couple of weekends we have enjoyed walking in Grizedale Forest.
Canon Rawnsley evidently loved September and wrote:
The month of September is the month that is par excellence, the month for the holiday maker. The days have not yet closed in, the skies are steady, the tourist crush has lessened, and one can begin to realise in the slight changes of colour on the higher fells, something of the glory that will be fully revelaed in October.
We're looking forward to our Autumn walks....
