Last week we spent a few hours at the Heaton Cooper Studio in Grasmere enjoying their first Christmas Art Market and lunch in Mathilde's.
The Art Market was fabulous, showcasing work from many local artists with articles as diverse as maps and jewellery, to paintings and furniture. Most of the work was exquisite and we were very tempted by some of the items we saw.
Lunch in Mathilde's was also a pleasure with delicious Scandinavian flavours and smells. The food is simple and colourful as well as extremely tasty.
Afterwards we strolled round the village, stopping to browse in Sam Read's bookshop to stock up on a spot of festive reading. Sarah Nelson's - the Grasmere Gingerbread shop - also tempted us in, for some of the scrumptious gingerbread, so very different from the sticky cake that I make!
An added bonus was bumping into some old friends at the Art Market and enjoying a catch up. An excellent start to December!
