As the entire planet stays home for the Easter weekend, webcams give us what must be one of the strangest collections of views for a very long time.

Windermere shore at Brockholes |
Windermere car ferry at Sawrey |
The Lake District is effectively closed and the streets which would normally be full of people taking their first proper holiday of the year are now empty.
Coniston village |
Coniston village, like all the other villages, is deserted. Its church will stay silent today as worshippers will have to be content with private prayer in their own homes, listening to the Archbishop of Canterbury on the BBC.
Ullswater steamers |
Ullswater's steamers are normally full of holiday-makers enjoying stunning views as they travel the seven and a half mile journey from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding.
M6 near Preston |
Further south, the M6 is normally full to bursting as it carries traffic past Preston to both the Lake District and Blackpool. Traffic here on bank holiday weekends often comes to a standstill.
Portland Street, Manchester city centre |
Further south, Manchester's city centre streets are deserted. And much further south, so is Brighton beach.
Brighton beach and pier |
All of this is a constant reminder of the real power of nature - in an instant it can bring our entire species to its knees.
