For today's walk we went to Silverdale and walked through Eaves Wood. The weather was glorious, the sky blue and the birds were singing. It's hard to imagine that we have such a problem with Covid-19 when you're in the countryside in April.
I was absolutely delighted to spot some violets amongst the trees and was immediately put in mind of Wordsworth's Lucy poem.
She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love:
A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye!
—Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky.
She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
The difference to me!
It's lovely to think that nature is enjoying the peace and quiet and having something of a resurgence during this strange time. I've never seen wild violets before and they are even more special as my Mum's name was Violet.
