Since the lockdown we've been exploring walks much closer to home. Following Government guidance to walk for longer than you drive, we have been spending a great deal of time in and around Silverdale. Silverdale is only a 10 minutes drive for us from home, and we walk for at least an hour, so this seemed perfectly reasonable.
We have lots of favourite walks in the Arnside and Silverdale AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) area, but we hadn't explored the walk from Thrang Brow Lane, in Yealand Realand, to Haweswater. This walk takes you through the Yealand Hall Allotments and some of the most stunning limestone outcrops and limestone pavement in the area. The Allotments aren't modern allotments, but rather lots of land which were parceled up, in medieval times, for local yeoman to farm.
We have walked through the woods, over the fields and to Haweswater many times over recent weeks. Each time we have spotted something new and different and have fallen ever more in love with this wonderful spot. We are so lucky to have it right on our doorstep. And for a limestone lover, like me, there is just so much to enjoy and revel in.
