One of the great delights of the past twelve months has been our forays into limestone country. We have explored Farleton Fell and Hutton Crags thoroughly and, since Christmas, we have climbed up Dalton Crags many times.
The limestone is absolutely stunning, almost breathtaking. W H Auden wrote a poem In Praise of Limestone, in which he says:
... when I try to imagine a faultless love
Or the life to come, what I hear is the murmur
Of underground streams, what I see is a limestone landscape.
This sublime poem says everything that I feel about limestone country.
