One of the pleasures of the return to normal is browsing in
bookshops. The online world kept me sane during lockdown and shop
closures, but nothing beats the joy of a real bookshop. I think it's the
combination of finding unexpected treats and new authors or genres.
When I'm browsing in a real bookshop, I spot books which would never be
recommended to me online. A couple of really good examples of this are Lazy Baking and The Cumbria and Lake District Coast. Both are full of inspiration and will, I'm sure, provide many hours of entertainment over coming months. To
ensure we get maximum book browsing opportunities, Chris and I are
planning some book-related mini breaks over the coming months. Our first
will be to the Main Street Trading Company in St Boswell's. We'll
combine this with a trip to Abbotsford, Sir Walter Scott's house. Bliss! |
