We love going to Rydal, midway between Ambleside and Grasmere. Rydal is probably best known for Rydal Mount, Wordsworth’s home for a few years, but we often visit Rydal Hall, across the road. The 17th century house has beautiful gardens and, in the woods, a fabulous sculpture trail. Early autumn is definitely the best time to wander through the damp woods, admiring the artwork.
