The publisher Collins has been building its New Naturalist series of books since 1945 and there are now over 140 volumes. We have recently become interested in these beautiful, illustrated books and over the past couple of months we've built a small collection on subjects which particularly interest us.
The quality of all of the books is particularly high. Although they are aimed at the general enthusiast, each volume is written by a leading specialist in the field.
Whether it's accounts of the wildlife in Lakeland or detailed descriptions of the different Fungi found in the UK, these books all offer an easy way to lose an hour or so on a damp, windy afternoon.
