Friday saw us driving into Manchester for some last minute Christmas shopping followed by afternoon tea at the Richmond Tea Rooms. With the last two Christmasses being decidedly flat, it was very uplifting to walk around the city as people did their shopping in a very normal way. We even enjoyed the fractious families who had probably spent just a little bit too much time, and money, shopping.
We’ve been to the Tea Rooms quite a few times and love the Alice in Wonderland theme - as well as the delicious food and drink, of course. In 2019 they moved a short distance to larger premises but have managed to keep things just as quirky as they were.
The Alice’s Rarebit was delicious, with plenty of whole grain mustard; the Lemon Dream Cake that followed was, well, dreamy; and we washed it all down with plenty of Lapsang Souchong tea.
A perfect end to the pre-Christmas period, we returned home feeling very ‘normal’ and ready to face Christmas Day.
