Friends surprised us with tickets for Pride and Prejudice (sort of) at the Lowry Theatre on Salford Quays. We weren't sure what to expect, although we had heard very good reviews.
So, whatever we were expecting we got a shock, but a really good shock!
The show was fabulous and the cast was amazing; singing, dancing, playing every musical instrument imaginable. The cast of five women played all the characters in Pride and Prejudice, remaining true to the plot at all times. We witnessed the proud and haughty Mr Darcy, the dashing and evil Mr Wickham, the flighty Lydia and the unctuous Mr Collins. Jane and Lizzie were superb, as was Mrs Bennett. It was difficult to remember that every character was played by a cast of only five.
In the words of Stephen Fry: “Hilarity, romance, madness and utter theatrical joy. The whole house cheered and cheered and cheered”. We all totally agreed with this review and had a wonderful evening.
