We spent a lovely day in the South Lakes while avoiding too many visitors, brought out by the fine weekend weather.
Our first stop was the Halecat Estate where the resident artists had an open studio event in their workshops. Paintings, pottery, wood-turning and furniture were all on show, with the artists all on hand to answer questions.
Halecat is a beautiful, peaceful location and the gardens are just starting to become colourful as blossom and flowers emerge after a long winter.
From Halecat we drove up the western (quiet) side of Windermere to Wray Castle where we looked in on the castle and its exhibition of photographs of Beatrix Potter's family holidaying in the Lake District. The photographs are displayed on very large - maybe 60 inch - back-lit screens making it easy to see every detail.

After some delicious plant-based lunch in Joey's Cafe we enjoyed a good walk down to and along the lake shore.
We returned home fully recharged and looking forward to spending even more time outside as the longer, warmer days arrive.
