Today the weather was glorious again and we spent another day in the Lake District - this time in north Cumbria.
We started with a quick stop at Tebay Services where we raided the farm shop and bought some lovely food to take home. Next was lunch at Up Front Gallery, one of our favourite vegetarian cafés. Delicious food while surrounded by the works of local artists in a 17th century stone barn.
Our next stop was the Rheged Discovery Centre, an interesting combination of meeting place, gallery, interesting independent shops and 3D cinema - all housed in a futuristic building. Today we were just interested in the shops - clothes, homewares, stationery - and the exhibition of Libby Edmondson's vibrant Lakeland scenes. And, of course, we picked up a few more food items from the deli to take home. From Rheged we dropped down to Pooley Bridge on Ullswater to stretch our legs and call into Verey Books, one of our favourite local bookshops. Light and airy, with a great selection of new books, it also has a café where we topped up our caffeine levels.
As we arrived in Pooley Bridge, the Sun was low and gave us a fantastic view of the lake and the central Lakeland hills silhouetted beyond.
Then we made our way home, with our car full of good food for the evening, and a few other items too.
