We spent a lovely couple of days in Edinburgh, a city whose beauty was enhanced by the autumn colours and the cold, bright weather. We pushed the boat out and stayed in a 4 star hotel in Grassmarket with superb views of the castle.
We love the bohemian vibe of
Grassmarket and it was also a great practical choice, giving us good
access to everything we wanted - independent shops and restaurants, the
art galleries, the
Royal Mile and plenty of book shops.

We explored St Giles' Cathedral, the Gothic masterpiece at one end of the Royal Mile. We had never been inside it before and were astonished at the interior and especially the detailed carvings.
