We were treated to an excellent performance by the Border Readers, at the Roundhouse in Staveley. This was the first time that we had been to one of their readings and we were very impressed. This definitely won't be the last!
Helen Longworth, Stephen Tomlin and Roberta Kerr read three murder mysteries - The Habit of Silence by Ann Cleeves, The Case of the Musical Butler by Martin Edwards and Riviera by Cath Staincliffe.
The three stories were very different and all fantastic entertainment. I really enjoyed all three stories and it was good that they were so different.
The Habit of Silence was a typical Vera tale, set in the Lit and Phil Library in Newcastle. I'm now very keen to visit, it sounds lovely.
The Case of the Musical Butler was a Sherlock Holmes tale. I'm not normally a Holmes fan, but this Martin Edwards tale was really good. I really like Martin Edwards crime novels but haven't read any for a while. I think one of his Rachel Savernake novels might find its way onto my TBR pile.
Riviera was delivered in a Victoria Wood style, and was possibly my favourite story of the evening. There was such a brilliant twist at the end.
We're really enjoying this new type of theatre - monologues and storytelling. We're looking forward to more in the future.
