On Saturday we enjoyed an evening of Victorian Gothic stories, performed by Don't Go Into the Cellar, in the wonderfully atmospheric Great Hall in Speke Hall.
We were treated to a classic trio of nineteenth-century chillers - The Body-Snatcher, The Monkey's Paw and Lot No 249.
The performance was excellent, and with the flickering candles, we were transported into a world of ghosts and strange happenings. It was a wonderful evening. I could feel chills up and down my spine on many occasions.
I've only recently started enjoying the Gothic and the ghost story, and I've been so excited to discover this whole new type of theatre. It was lovely to share this performance with the friends who introduced us to the delights of M R James, W W Jacobs and many others.
