As January grinds on, and we cope with rain, wind, snow and ice, we were extremely thankful that friends had bought us tickets to see Calendar Girls at the Lowry, for our Christmas present.
We weren't sure what to expect, but it was a fantastic show. The acting and singing were amazing, with stellar performances from Maureen Nolan, Honeysuckle Weeks and Lyn Paul, amongst others.
The music was composed by Gary Barlow and was excellent. The story was moving and poignant, with lots of laugh out loud moments, as well. Based on the true story of a women’s institute in Skipton, the show tells how, in order to raise money, the women decided to make a “naked” calendar!
We had a smashing evening, and it certainly banished the January blues.
