Hangfire Theatre Company's production was wonderful - fastpaced and hilarious.
I love Wilde's comedy of manners and it doesn't matter how many times I see this play, there's always something new that I haven't thought about before.
This time, on our way home, we were talking about how many references to books and literature there are in the play. Miss Prism left the baby in her bag rather than the three volume novel she had written. Miss Prism's novel, so she tells us, demonstrates “The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what Fiction means."
Cecily always travels with her diary: "I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.”
And finally, one of my favourite quotes “The truth is rarely pure and never simple. Modern life would be very tedious if it were either, and modern literature a complete impossibility!”
