Quiet Day in North Cumbria

After lunch at Upfront Gallery we stopped off at Brougham (pronounced 'Broom') Hall, south of Penrith. Dating from the 13th century it has a chequered history, with many additions in later centuries resulting in a fine hall by the Victorian era, then falling into disuse and dereliction in the 1950s, before being purchased in the 1960s, and finally its recent renovation.

Today, the Hall's buildings accommodate a range of artists and the renovation project continues. Compared to our previous visit a few years ago, the rebuilding work is much more advanced.

As we were in the area we called in at Larch Cottage Nurseries where the plants on sale were in full bloom.
