L M Montgomery's October

"It was October again...all red and gold, with mellow mornings when the valleys were filled with delicate mists as if the spirit of autumn had poured them in for the sun to drain..amethyst, pearl, silver, rose, and smoke-blue. The dews were so heavy that the fields glistened..."

L M Montgomery loved the autumn more than any other season, and she writes so beautifully of the joys of this gorgeous season. We all know and love Anne Shirley's "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers," but this quote from Jane of Lantern Hill is much less well known, but just as evocative of this most lovely of seasons.
