Over the past few years I have become a big fan of M R James and his wonderful ghost stories. So I was delighted to find that Nunkie, aka Robert Lloyd Parry, was performing two of M R James's tales, at St Mary's Church, in Kirkby Lonsdale.
The venue was wonderful, full of shadows which added to the atmosphere created by this fantastic storyteller. The church setting seemed absolutely perfect for the telling of ghost stories, although not without a touch of irreverence.
The chosen tales were two of my favourites: The Mezzotint and Canon Alberic's Scrap-Book.
Both tales were told brilliantly, in Lloyd-Parry's inimitable style. We had a fabulous evening's entertainment, a great start to the spooky season.
