We've been looking out for 'different' pre-Christmas events and Lindsey spotted that the National Trust's Sizergh Castle had a son et lumière installation in the grounds. I wasn't expecting too much - but I couldn't have been more wrong.
The medieval house usually closes through the long Cumbrian winter but it was open and the rooms were authentically decorated in the style of lavish banquets from Christmases past - including one 16th century, one 1920s, another 1983.
But the real interest was outside. Fortunately the weather was dry and still, perfect for the treat ahead. To enjoy the show we followed a never-ending trail of fairy lights which took us past colour-washed trees along with installations by local artists - all accompanied by a soundscape of Aeolian flutes and the sounds of the animals that live in the grounds.
The effect was stunning and we wandered around the grounds for 40 minutes or so, mesmerised by the amazing show.
