After the recent very windy weather we decided that we needed a Proper Day Out! We also felt like mooching round some good bookshops, so Durham was the perfect answer. Durham has two excellent branches of Waterstones, very different from each other. One of the shops has an excellent selection of second hand and remainder books.
We had an enjoyable drive across the A66, there was still lots of snow, and we managed to incorporate a visit to one of our favourite farmshops - Mainsgill. We discovered the quirky Cafédral Durham Café which serves delicious food and coffee, had a mooch around the Cathedral quarter and spent quite a lot of time in Waterstones making a selection of books.
A smashing day out which did a lot to chase away the January Blues!
