Before Christmas we went to another performance by Eden Baroque. We enjoyed their concert in Beetham so much that we couldn’t resist some unusual Christmas music presented in their home in the lovely village of Great Salkeld, a few miles north of Penrith.
We were welcomed with mulled wine and then enjoyed two hours of delightful Baroque and Renaissance winter music in their music room, complete with minstrels’ gallery.
The music featured violin, viola, harpsichord, harp and voice. There were some instrumental pieces as well as carols from the days before Hymns Ancient and Modern. Everything had a distinctly Christmas flavour but didn’t include any of the over-exposed tunes that are blasted out everywhere from early November.
We loved every minute and will be returning for their next concern in March 2025.
