Battlefield 1403

Yesterday we visited some friends in their new holiday lodge, near Shrewsbury. We had a bit of time to spare so we visited the Battlefield of 1403, after which the site is named.

This is where one of the bloodiest battles in English history took place, between the young King Henry IV and the rebellious Percy family, led by Sir Henry Percy or Hotspur.

The Battle of Shrewsbury laid the foundations for the Wars of the Roses, and honed the young King’s skills on the battlefield. These skills were later to serve Henry IV well, at the Battle of Agincourt.
