Blithe Spirit

Last week we had tickets booked for a performance of Noel Coward's wonderful play "Blithe Spirit", at the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster.

I love this "improbable farce" as Coward called his funny and quirky play. I've seen a number of adaptations and thought HER Productions version was excellent, particularly the warmth and brilliance of Karen Henthorn’s performance as a distinctly northern Madame Arcart. The bicycle-riding, bossy, sandwich-munching and ever-energetic “spirit medium”, who gets more than she bargains for when she attempts to bring back writer Charles Condomine’s deceased first wife Elvira in the presence of his second, Ruth

The whole cast was very strong and the production great fun. We chuckled our way through the evening, enjoying the ridiculousness of it all. So wonderful to escape from real life for a few hours.
