2025 is the 250th anniverary of Jane Austen's birth, and I am delighted that there are so many books celebrating her life and novels. Every time I go into a bookshop there's a new haul of Austen related books to purchase!
I already have a fairly large pile of new books all related to Jane Austen, and will be buying more as they are published. One of my favourite publications so far is Jane Austen's Bookshelf: The Women Writers who Shaped a Legend. A friend recommended this book, after his daughter had given him a proof copy.
I have enjoyed Gill Hornby's novels - Godmersham Park and Miss Austen, we also loved watching the TV adaptation of Miss Austen. The Independent Bookshop editions of these novels are beautiful, with glorious endpapers and decorated fore edges.
I also decided to collect the Harvard Press annotated editions of Jane Austen's novels, and have started with Sense and Sensibility. These editions are full of pictures, notes and illustrations from many other editions of the novel.
